With the departure of now former assistant defensive line coach Jordan Thomas, who left the NFL to join Bill O'Brien as the defensive line coach at Boston College, the Browns needed an aggressive veteran to help this young defensive line thrive in a crucial upcoming season.
Morris, who was born in Dublin, Ohio, started his coaching career at Eastern Illinois where he spent 3 years as a defensive line coach, commanding the Panthers to having the 39th best run defense in the country.
He then moved to his alma Mader, Ball State, where they finished second in the Mid-American Conference with the defense allowed a stifling 111.6 rushing yards per game. He then took the same job at Buffalo. The Buffalo Bulls under Morris had the 4th ranked rushing defense in the MAC, allowing just 146.6 rushing yards per game, to go with their 33 sacks which ranked 3rd and a school record of 92 tackles for loss.
The Browns ranked 21st in run defense and 11th in sack percentage, according to Team Rankings. Morris looks to come in and work alongside current defensive line coach Jacques Cesair to get the most out of this young defense with guys like Isaiah McGuire, Alex Wright, and even potentially Abdul Carter with the looming departure of Myles Garrett.
